The Subwoofer
page
This is my view on the subject and to me it also applies to 3 and 4 way systems. For home theater systems I recommend the use of a sub and especially an active subwoofer. All also depends on the budget and room size.
Currently recommended drivers:
Peerless XLS10 and 12 extra long stroke = 400 mm peak to peak
Peerless CSX 257 suits most NORMAL demands either BR or closed
Focal 15K8711 expensive but good compact BR sub
Beyma 18LX60 if you hate your neighbours !!!!
Beyma 21L45 for the bass hungry with no neighbours !!!!
Beyma 12B70 and Beyma 15B100/R
Audax PR330MO and PR380MO
All these speakers are suitable also for the use with a passive membrane. In
this case make sure the Xmax is big enough.
the advantage is that the frequency response goes very deep and the enclosure
stays very small ..
Example : 20Hz to 80Hz -3dB with XLS10 and slave 400grams in just 30 dm3 enclosure
What you need mostly is power and phase adjustments 0-180°. Bass enhancement
will just cost money
and cut-off frequency adjustment is also quite ridiculous ,because most amps
don't cut low enough. Always too high.
Please note a good sub is INAUDIBLE , but when switched off , the lack of it
is depressing .
